Women from the earliest times to our modern life have left their mark on the creation of human values with their love, patience, endurance, perseverance, and perfect thinking, thus, nowadays they use their rights equally with men in their social and political activities. Present article is based on the book “Turkic Women Rulers and Naibs in Muslim States” by Bahriye Uchok, a well-known Turkish researcher and politician of the last century. Bahriye Uchok, the first female scholar (academician) of the Faculty of Theology of Ankara University, the Ordu deputy (1983-1987) and member of the party council of the Social-Democratic People’s Party (1987-1990), was appointed to the Senate of the National Assembly in 1971 and served as a senator for 6 years. The author, who presented historical and documentary information about the well-known female rulers of the Muslim world, such as Raziya Sultan of Delhi, the Egyptian sultan Shajar ad-Dürr, the ruler of Kerman Gutlug Turkan Khatun, etc., shared interesting information on each of them. As a result of the skillful political talent and management of these historical figures, the “slave” image imposed on women for centuries was destroyed, and it was even proven that they are superior to men in some subjects. The present article deals with the author’s curious ideas on the political position and reforms held in the sake of prosperity of their countries by the women rulers since 13th century, as well as the concept of women in the medieval Muslim world from the Bahriye Uchok’s perspective. During the research the memoirs of several writers who witnessed the events related to the subject and the works by history researchers were also applied.
Yahşihanım NESİROVA Copyright (c) 2024 JOURNAL OF WORLD WOMEN STUDIES https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/173 Fri, 03 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0300 Evaluation of Partner Violence and Depression Tendency in Married Women in During the COVID-19 Pandemic Process https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/157
Domestic violence has become widespread in Turkey as well as all over the world during the COVID-19 process. Home isolation has been recommended as the safest measure to protect against the virus and not infect others during the pandemic period. However, homes, where everyone should feel safe, have become very risky places for women who are exposed to violence. For this reason, this study was conducted to evaluate partner violence and depression tendency in married women in Eskisehir province during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 573 married women during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Husband Violence against Women Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory were applied to the sample group. The mean age of women was 39.7, the mean length of marriage was 12.7, and the mean age of the spouse was 43.1. Women's age, education level, economic level, alcohol consumption by the partner, how marriage started, the length of the marriage, and the effect of the pandemic on the relationship were found to affect violence scores (p<0.05). The mean score of participants on the husband violence against women scale was 26.6, and the mean depression score was 9.1. In our study, there was a weak positive relationship between women's mean partner violence scores and their depression levels.
Özlem ÇAĞAN, Ayşe ÇATALOLUK Copyright (c) 2024 JOURNAL OF WORLD WOMEN STUDIES https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/157 Fri, 03 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0300 Reporting of Violence against Women in Mainstream Media and Its Subsequent Effect in Formulating Public Opinion for Tougher Punishments (Case Study- Hyderabad Rape Case 2019) https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/174
Media in contemporary world is de facto source of news regarding crime taking place in society, its nature, severity and most importantly its perpetrators. Reporters and anchors communicate to public every minute detail of the crime generating not only public interest but also sympathy for victim and detest for criminal. It’s been observed that crimes of heinous nature are generally more highlighted by media and one taking part regularly. Also reports have shown that mostly rape or other sort of violence against women (VAW) is viewed as result of incompetence of government, police and that of justice system rather than of conditions in society as a whole . There are trenchant talk of harder punishments and vindictiveness but rarely of criminal reforms or societal reforms. In this scenario public isn’t left with much choice but to perceive criminal as threat to society and in want of tougher punishment for them. In the given study we have taken variable such as economic status, education level, gender, exposure to both new and conventional media etc. to decode public support for tougher punishments in violence against women and its dependence on coverage of the event by media (new and conventional). One of the objectives of the study is also to study is there’s difference in perception of crimes and punishment among audiences of new and conventional media?
Himani BINJOLA , Diksha BISHT , Keshav Patel Copyright (c) 2024 JOURNAL OF WORLD WOMEN STUDIES https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/174 Fri, 03 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0300 An Analysis of The Most Cited Articles on “Women Managers” in Business and Management Journals within The Scope of Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI): A Qualitative Study https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/172
This study aims to analyze the most cited scientific publications on the theme of “women managers” in business and management journals within the scope of the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) in the Web of Science (WoS) database. In this process, women need appropriate support and interventions. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate intervention studies for women with stillbirth, to identify the need and to raise awareness about these outcomes for those working in the field.

Materials and Methods: Literature search was performed by searching the electronic databases 'Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Medline, Cohrane, DynaMed, Web of Science'. Turkish and English studies, published between 2013 and 2023, were analyzed. This literature search was conducted between November 2023 and March 2024. Seven full-text studies published in English and Turkish in the last decade, including intervention studies on women with stillbirth at 20 weeks of gestation and above, were included. Results from the studies were analyzed based on the PRISMA reporting criteria. PROSPERO registration was performed for this systematic review.

Literature Findings: Of the 7 studies that met the inclusion criteria, three were mixed methods, three were quasi-experimental studies and one was a randomized controlled trial. Three of the relevant studies were conducted in India, two in Iran, and two in the United States. It was determined that supportive interventions including mindfulness-based intervention including cognitive-based yoga, cognitive-based meditation, breathing exercises, online yoga practice, psychological grief counseling and psychoeducation interventions were applied to women who became pregnant after stillbirth.

Conclusion: It was determined that interventions for stillbirth women can be effective in reducing perinatal grief, anxiety and symptoms such as depression and anxiety experienced by women. Considering that the grief experienced after stillbirth is more intense in the first time and its effect decreases relatively over time, it is recommended to implement psychological grief counseling in the beginning, mindfulness-based practices such as yoga and meditation in the long term, online yoga in their private spaces, and psychoeducation intervention for women who become pregnant again after stillbirth. There is a need to implement these practices and continue research.
Songül YANIK, Emine AVCU Copyright (c) 2024 JOURNAL OF WORLD WOMEN STUDIES https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/170 Fri, 03 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0300 Evaluation of the Gains Obtained Through the Olive Project (Women Farmers Meet Agricultural Innovations-2022) Survey Study and Data Analysis https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/164
Olive growing is done in all regions of Turkey except Eastern Anatolia and Central Anatolia Regions. Even if not everyone in the Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean regions, which are located in the temperate climate zone, has an olive garden, there is definitely one olive tree in the houses that have a garden. Olive oil is also an indispensable element of Turkish cuisine. Çanakkale province stands out in terms of agriculture, as well as its historical and cultural values, ecological factors, education, culture and tourism features. Çanakkale region is also important due to its production share in Turkey's olive cultivation, newly established olive gardens, high productivity and the quality of the local olive oils. For all these reasons, there is a need to reconsider the cultivation of olives in the region, in order to obtain higher and higher quality products from olive cultivation in Çanakkale province and to include farmer women in the process. Within the scope of the 2022 Women Farmers Meet with Agricultural Innovations Projects of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry - Education and Publication Department, the " Dissemination of Modern Olive Cultivation Techniques in Women Farmers" project, carried out jointly with Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and İzmir Bornova Olive Research Institute, was carried out in 2 stages. . The project was carried out during 2021 and 2022. Institute experts provided training to women farmers in order to announce new techniques in olive cultivation, ensure the use of these techniques and improve product quality, and had them perform applications (demonstrations) in field conditions. In the meeting organized by both organizations in September, when the project started, a farmer meeting was held with female olive producers in the region about modern cultivation practices, and "preliminary survey" study was conducted before the trainings. With this project, it was aimed to increase the awareness of women farmers and to ensure that they use modern production techniques with an innovative approach instead of traditional methods, and trainings were organized on this subject. After the trainings, the effectiveness of the training was evaluated with the "final survey" through surveys conducted with the producers in May. As a result, it is planned to encourage more profitable olive cultivation by evaluating the adoption of modern innovative techniques at the producer level, quality production, increasing efficiency, reducing production costs, increase in income levels, and their effects on the social structure. In this article, these survey studies and the gains they brought will be examined in detail.
Meltem AYAZ, Mine AKAR, Özgül UÇAR, Ayşen YILDIRIM, Aişe DELİBORAN, Zekeriya ÇİĞDEM, Murat AYATA, Latife Erten CERAN, Canan AYDIN Copyright (c) 2024 JOURNAL OF WORLD WOMEN STUDIES https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://worldwomenstudies.com/index.php/wwsj/article/view/164 Fri, 03 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0300
